Elk like this are seldom seen. There are two times of the year a person might be fortunate enough to lay eyes on an elk like this: during the rut in mid-September and then later in the winter. In late winter the human activity level in the woods is minimal to non-existent. Big elk will sometimes let their guard down during this time. Every once in a while you will see one, reminding you that they do exist. When you want to see one during elk hunting season, they can be like chasing a fairytale.
