Beautiful Camouflage

The cecropia moth is a beautiful moth that I only get to see about once a year. This one was at a friend's wedding. Elizabeth Davis found it on the corner of a roof. It had just emerged so it was still slow and docile. I placed it on a mossy rock and took the reference photograph. A few minutes later the moth kind of woke up and flew off. I brought the reference to Chile where I was working over a summer. There in Chile I painted this under candlelight. God did not spare any beauty when he made cecropia moths.
